How would I pick one game over the crowd of great games that came out this year? Easy, I would pick Flower. Flower is not only the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, playing the game effected me in a way that no other game has. Playing the wind and flying down to breeze past a flower petal could not have been captured any better. The combination of everything in this game makes it great. The story manages to bring you into this world of Flower, then create a tense moment, and then bring it all together with an amazing finale. In many ways, this is a perfect game and very worthy of Game of the Year.

Coming in a close second is Assassin’s Creed II. Assassin’s Creed II is, without a doubt, one of the best games to come out this year. The story was very interesting, Etzio was a much stronger character, the combat was much more engaging and the extras and collectables were integrated very well. You could take a short break to explore the streets of each city and get lost in all the detail and wealth of content. While some could argue that this is the game that Assassin’s Creed I was supposed to be, that is in no way a bad thing.

Coming up in third place is Forza Motorsport 3. While at first glance, Forza 3 could seem like a slight upgrade over Forza 2, it adds enough to, not only make it a much better game, but a great game overall. The storefront gives creative players a great feature to share their content, the new tracks are challenging and fun to drive on and the rewind feature makes the game much more accessible, which is always a good thing. Forza 3 deserves a spot in my top games of 2009 because i enjoyed playing the game every time I put it in my Xbox 360. In many ways, I would argue that Forza 3 is a perfect game.

Biggest Disappointments

While I did write the review for Modern Warfare 2 and give it a glowing review, the more I play the multi-player for the game, the more I don’t like it. The single player portion of the game is still amazing and the coop is still fun, however many aspects of the multi player, which is the portion that many gamers will be playing for the next year or two, is very disappointing. From glitched or broken lobbies,tactical insertion boosting or even just having the “tactical nuke” killstreak. All of these aspects just make the game not very fun.

I was looking forward to playing Left 4 Dead 2 in a big way. I played Left 4 Dead 1 on expert A LOT and I thought that was fun and a good challenge. Left 4 Dead 2, on the other hand, is not very fun and is instead frustrating. I don’t feel like I barely make it during the level, I feel like I’m just a target for the infected, which would be fine if there wasn’t clearly an objective that I’m supposed to be able to reach. All I really expected from this game was for the game to be fun and the game wasn’t much fun.
